Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

From my progression through the preliminary task to my Full product I have learnt a great deal more about the technologies that I have been using to research and create my Rock music magazine. I have learnt how to use some of the features of photoshot to their fullesgt and I have learnt a great deal about the font generators I have used to create my draft and final products.
I feel that from my Draft piece that my final design has greatly improved as I learnt through the creation of my draft that making a magazine over complicated will ruin it just as much as adding to little to it as long as you have the vital aspects of a magazine such as the mast head and the barcode your magazine will be of a good quality. My magazine cover has developed alot from the draft as I decided that the colour I had chosen for the Draft were only suitable for special edtions of Rock music magazines as the majority use much darker colours such as black or grey and the secondary colours such as the red in my magazine contrast better with these darker colours.

I have learnt from the bulk of this project that the more complicated and detailed designs are not as necessarily good as the simplar designs, as they are easy to read and for more attractive to the eye of the audience.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? One of the technologies I almost forgot for was Paint as without it I would not have been able to create the interesting design for the background of my cover page.In regards to the technologies that I have used in the process of constructing my music magazine I have learnt alot about the how they work and what features of these technologies are suitable for the different tasks that I would be undertaking in the process of creating my magazine.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I have attempted to attract my target audience through the conventions and styles of text that I have used. This coupled with the articles I have written attract my audience as they will interest the groups of people that I have target my magazine to attract. The use of a male artist in my magazine will apeal to a female audience and the fact he is holding a guitar will also attract a male audience that are interested in guitars and the music that this intrument represents.

Who would be the audience for your media product? My target audience is 13 to 25 year olds that likes Rock music and all of the information and relevant texts that are linked to it. An example of this is Joe Saunder's who is 16. But my magazine was also targeted to the loyal fans of rock and roll that are of all ages. Examples of people like this are my Dad, James Saunders and Steve Challis who are all above the targeted audience of my magazine but also enjoy the facts and information about Rock music of which my magazine consists. The Subcultured group that are targeted by my magazine are the casual fans of rock and roll those of whom listen to the music of this genre without dressing in the rock and roll fashion. But also attempts to attract those of the opposite persuasion who are avid life long Rock fans that may dress in the varying styles of the rock music genre. The style of TV they might watch is usually programmes such as Kerrang! TV, MTV and other shows that might contain Rock music. Other then that they will probably watch the same television as the rest of the world such as Hollyoaks and the Mentalist. There Music preference varies as the casual listener may only listen to rock music once or twice during the events of their day to day lives otherwise listening to a variety of music styles. Where as the long time Rock fans probably listen to it more then twice a day and will only listen to rock music (such as Guns and Roses or Aerosmith) or similar styles that could be linked to this genre. They are most likely to shop at the less high ranking shop as they are not necessarily snobs and would probably not hesitate to shop at places such as River island and The Arcade in Leicester.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think the best chance of getting my music magazine distributed comes from the Bauer media group a large German publishing company based in Hamburg which also operates in the UK. The reason I think they are the best choice for distribution is the fact they already have a good record for distributing British media and they also distribute KERRANG! a well known and vastly popular Rock music magazine. I think that they are the best choice to distribute my magazine as they have experience with magazines of the same style of music as my magazine and therefore have a better understanding of the genre then most publishers and as their magazines are a big success so they must be good at designing magazines. Their experience would hopefully help me to further develope my magazine and my ideas to make the magazine successful. I have also considered different ways in which I might distribute my magazine as I could send it via the internet to people that have subscriptions and by mobile phones through texts or downloadable content. Another company I have considered was Imagine publishing which has no experience of having a music magazine but has a good reputation for their quality of magazines and I would hope to use that to my advantage and create more magazines with a growing quality as they help me to develope my skills.

Evaluation 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

As the main focus of my music magazine is the main character J-max who is a Rock musician who is about to go on tour. So this makes him the logical choice to represent a social group. In this case I tried to focus on the target audience as relating the main character to the audience that listen and read about rock music would result in more sale of my magazine. I decided that the best way to do this was to focus on the mise en scene in regards to the main character. So I selected some cloths that he and I both agreed meet some of the rock music conventions and began to shoot some pictures. Although I did have some reservations abou the choice of clothing it was however the only arrangment of cloths that we could both agree on. But the combination of the shirt and jeans does work well to match the genre of a rock star at home as you don't wear your stage cloths at home do you. I might have changed the tyle of clothing a little as I feel that rock musicians would probably wear something a little darker when in a interview, but as this was set at his famly home it makes sense that he would be wearing more casual rather then practical clothing. This represents a social group as The next area I addressed was the the selection of an Instrument as alot of the rock music magazines have instruments in the pictures with the musician to give the feel of action and movement. In stereotypical terms my represents both the mainstream stereotypes through its use of casual clothing and active possess which might appeal to both the Casuals and Ravers of the teenager stereotypes. The alternatives stereotypes are also represented as my character wears up to date clothing and has spiked gelled hair and follow the conventions of other magazines such as Kerrang which means it also represents although subtly Scene kids and Metal heads.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My music magazine matches up well with existing media as like most magazines in the most magazines in the rock music genre it has a clear focal point in the form of the main character who is in the centre of the front cover, and double page spread as well as my use of a mast head and a bar code which are typical of the magazine conventions. My magazine developes some of these typical conventions in particular the style of background I have chosen for my main character to stand against as I have chosen to use a black background with red effects. I chose this background for my front cover as it made the main character stand out from the background this was to show that he is the focal point of my magazine and to stop him having less of a impact like in other magazines. Such as the Kerrang magazine cover bellow as my eye is drawn first to the text in the center of the cover page before enything else. My final magazine has developed a lot more then draft piece as the Draft piece followed a restricted number of the conventions linked to this genre even though it's basic structure was build on existing media text. I used alot more of the conventions used in ------ magazine in the creation of my draft. Which after analysing my draft I decided to remove some of the conventions as I felt they did not match the genre of the text that I was trying to create. The title of the magazine Graphology/page layouts Costumes, props, iconography used to reflect genre Camerawork and framing of images Title, article, header etc font and style Genre and how the magazine cover, contents and spread suggests it How your artist(s) are represented Colour scheme
